An unconventional alternative to the trusty, traditional vacuum cleaner has been praised for getting the job done for a fraction of the price.

Keeping on top of dust and debris can be a relentless and frustrating task and, after a long day at work, it can feel all too time-consuming to keep on top of.

Many people are on the hunt for convenient and reliable cleaning solutions to keep their homes spick and span without eating into their downtime.

In the popular Reddit forum Life Hacks, one person shared their ingenious approach to keeping their home neat and dust-free – and it’s all down to swerving traditional vacuums in favour of a budget-friendly industrial alternative.

Kärcher, a family-owned cleaning technology company, is known for its pressure washers, window vacs, steam cleaners and much more.

Its KWD 1 model, designed to “achieve top cleaning results for dry, wet, fine and coarse dirt” was praised by the Redditor for being “life changing”.

In a post titled: “Buy a cheap industrial vacuum and use it to clean your house”, the social media user explained: “I bought a 50€ industrial vacuum last week (Kärcher KWD1). It’s a life changer, way more useful than the old Dyson I have. It’s super powerful and you can vacuum both dust and liquids.”

The similar Kärcher WD 2 Plus Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner is sold for £63 at Argos. In comparison, the cheapest Dyson vacuum cleaner currently available at Argos costs £250.

Fellow Reddit users shared their thoughts in the comments section. One person, agreeing, said: “I have 4 cats and wood floors, been using a shop vac for years. Best $50 spent.”

Another praised the popular Henry brand, often favoured for professional cleaning purposes: “Henry is amazing. I bought one for £50 in 2005 during my student life in London, used it for over 5 years and sold it for £40 in 2011, when I moved. I miss Henry.”

A third echoed this sentiment: “Henry is the GOAT [greatest of all time]. Henry for the win. We’ve had a Henry Micro in bright red colour for many years.”

One person pointed out the difference between day-to-day household cleaning compared to the amount of cleaning a professional is required to do: “Also because they have to vacuum several hours a day. When it’s just once in a while, the stick Dyson is game changing. I don’t have to deal with a plug and haul around a vacuum. I used to never actually vacuum before I got this.”

Another praised the use of an industrial vacuum cleaner, adding: “Glad I’m not alone – between my 2 dogs and cat, it’s rough out here. People think I’m crazy when they see me pull out my shop vac”.
