The dark pop single will be featured on Gaga’s forthcoming album, set to release February 2025

Lady Gaga released a stripped-back, guitar-driven rendition of “Disease,” the lead single off her forthcoming album, dubbed LG7. In the “Disease (The Poison Live)” video, Gaga gives an emotive take on the dark electro-pop track with support from guitarist Tim Stewart at a Malibu recording studio. Gaga spoke with Vogue about leaning into the tortured lyrics of the song for the guitar rendition.

“I sang and performed the song in this way, where I’m really playing in my own hurt,” Gaga told Vogue. “In a way, I think I both sang it to myself or someone I felt hurt by — someone I wish I could change — which I suppose could be me, too.”

The five-minute video, released Wednesday, reflects a stark contrast from the hair-raising music video the pop artist released Oct. 29. That four-and-a-half minute visual takes place in a quaint suburban neighborhood where Gaga confronts, fights, and embraces a grim reaper-inspired persona, before running away from the nightmarish figure. Gaga has previously said that single is about facing her inner demons and dancing with that darkness. Last week, Gaga released “Disease (The Antidote Live),” a piano-driven take on the haunting track. LG7, expected to release February 2025, will follow 2020’s Chromatica. In August, Gaga released “Die With a Smile,” with Bruno Mars.

Mother Monster will make a cameo in the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday. It follows a video of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday dancing to Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” that went viral in 2022. She also stars as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, a.k.a. Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, which arrived last month.
