Karol G Sends Message of Support to Latinos Amid ICE Protests
Karol G is responding to the protests that have erupted across the U.S. in response to the Trump administration’s mass arrests of migrants by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). On Wednesday, the Colombian star shared a message of support to the Latino community, who have been primarily targeted by the mass deportations.
“How crazy it is to wake up these days and see everything that’s happening,” Karol wrote in her Instagram story. “I can’t keep quiet when something hurts me. I am Colombian, and my country is going through a devastating time. I am Latina, and what is happening to my community is deeply painful.”
“Being Latino shouldn’t generate rejection or fear. It should inspire PRIDE AND RESPECT. Latinos are a blessing; persistent, hardworking, dreamers… People who, wherever they are, work the fields, build cities, start businesses, heal wounds, teach, support homes, take care of families,” she continued in her post. “We are here to contribute to culture, strength, talent, economy, and humanity. I can’t stop thinking about that, and at the same time, I can’t stop thinking about the pain of my homeland. Seeing the suffering and uncertainty in Colombia, my country, leaves me speechless,” Karol added.
The singer ended her noted with a direct message of support: “To the families who are currently experiencing moments of fear, loss, and distress… I am with you too. I am with my people. Always.”
Earlier this week, the singer announced her fifth studio album Tropicoqueta. “This album is soul, it’s passion, memory, it’s nostalgia, it’s joy, it’s party, it’s identity,” Karol said about the upcoming LP. She also made sure to highlight her unwavering pride in her culture, adding, “It’s my best way to say: I’m from here and I feel infinitely proud.”
