The singer, who announced last month that she separated from Eric Johnson, revealed her upcoming EP ‘Nashville Canyon’ — her first collection of songs in 15 years

Jessica Simpson is using the power of music to bounce back. On Friday, the musician announced her EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, which she wrote as she split from her husband Eric Johnson. She also released its first single, “Use My Heart Against Me.”

“I got thrown a real twist of fate in the middle of making this record,” Simpson told People. “My heart was completely broken. I had to continue to focus on the music. Thank God, I had Nashville.”

“Having this creative outlet, it’s like your heart breaks and you go into a songwriting session — like going straight into therapy,” she added. “I have always said it was cheesy when people said the music saved my life but it truly saved mine.”

The singer started working on Nashville Canyon in the fall of 2023, tapping Fancy Hagood, Natalie Hemby, Lucie Silvas, and Trent Dabbs for the project, which is expected to drop on March 21. The project is her first collection of songs since her 2009 holiday album, Happy Christmas.

“Music makes you un-become to become, and through this process my soul has been pulled to the very place it belongs,” Simpson wrote on Instagram. “To the girl I was, I love you. To the woman I am, I am proud of you. To the woman I am becoming, I am excited for you….lets do this…it’s GO TIME.”

Simpson reflected on her long time away from the spotlight in music saying that it was artform’s “storytelling” that allowed her to “gravitate” back to it. “The songs speak for themselves,” she said. “The music really does the talking.”
