What are the best movies ever made? It’s a tough and controversial question, which is why I’m just focusing on the last 50 years in this particular article. Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino didn’t make the Top 10, while one Christopher Nolan modern classic (not The Dark Knight) and one Marvel blockbuster did. But can you guess which ones?

10. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Voted the greatest film of the 21st century by Empire readers, George Miller’s fourth Mad Max movie, with Tom Hardy replacing Mel Gibson in the title role, is probably the best action movie ever made. Check out Furiosa, his prequel, which ends exactly where Fury Road begins, making for an octane-fuelled double bill. Vrooooommmm!
