Netflix subscribers should be sure not to miss the brand-new drama film His Three Daughters which has just hit the streamer.

The drama is being hailed as an “elegant” and “exceptional” character study with three of the best performances of the year.

Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen and Carrie Coon could all be up for major accolades once awards season gets going next year.

They step into the roles of Rachel, Christina and Katie, three estranged sisters who reconnect when their father nears the end of his battle with cancer.

When they reconvene in a New York apartment to care for him in his final days what follows is a witty and scathing portrayal of a family trying to heal itself.

Directed by Azazel Jacobs, His Three Daughters scored critical raves when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last week and is now available to wide audiences on Netflix.

All three performers have been praised as potential Oscar contenders, with Decider’s review paying particular attention to Ghostbusters and The Leftovers star Carrie.

“You won’t hear Netflix say it, so I will: Carrie Coon deserves her first Oscar nomination for His Three Daughters,” they wrote.

Later adding: “Coon delivers it all with relentless ferocity – though, again, always letting the audience see her character’s vulnerability, hovering just beneath the surface.”

While The Independent felt Natasha was the star of the show, penning: “A sad, disarming Natasha Lyonne anchors this grief-stricken drama.

“All three women live in roles they’re not particularly invested in playing, yet they’re played by actors who have breathed all their body and soul into them.”

While Digital Spy wrote: “Carrie Coon turns mourning into simmering rage as she gulps down too many wines, while Elizabeth Olsen’s sweet disposition slowly cracks as she tires of being the peacemaker who doesn’t return the blows headed her way.

“It’s Natasha Lyonne, though, who steals the show. The Russian Doll star masks her character’s pain under a faux nonchalance until the emotions burst out of her in some incredibly affecting scenes.”

The film is also generating the kind of wild excitement from viewers usually reserved for new seasons of Stranger Things or Bridgerton.

One person wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Everybody watch His Three Daughters on Netflix and marvel at the performances from those ladies, notably Elizabeth Olsen.

“They all better at least be included in the Oscar conversation, I don’t care if it’s just a Netflix movie. It was SO good.”

Another added: “I know it’s never going to happen, but in a perfect world Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen and Natasha Lyonne would all be Oscar nominated for their brilliant performances in His Three Daughters.”

And a final fan wrote: “I’m crying more this time around than when I first watched it, what a stunning film.

“His Three Daughters is the kind of movie that’ll stay with you for a very long time.”

For movie buffs stuck on what to watch this weekend, His Three Daughters is starting to sound like a no-brainer.

His Three Daughters is available to stream on Netflix.
