‘I’m a vet – these are the 3 dog breeds most likely to bite’
Prior to unveiling his choices, he informed his audience: “Most people would not expect this! But these are the breeds that have tried to bite me most often.” Based on Amir’s experience, these are the three dog breeds he most regularly encounters when it comes to snapping, snarling or trying to bite during check-ups.
1. Chihuahua
First on the list was chihuahuas – one of the smallest dog breeds in the world. Originally bred in Mexico, chihuahuas are known for their big personalities, strong loyalty, and fearless nature – despite their tiny size.
They typically weigh less than 6lbs and often form very close bonds with their owners.
However, their protective instincts can sometimes make them wary of strangers, particularly in unfamiliar situations such as a trip to the vet.
2. Chow Chow
Next up was chow chows. Recognisable by their lion-like mane and distinctive blue-black tongue, chow chows originated in China and were historically used for guarding, hunting, and pulling carts.
They are known for being independent and reserved dogs that tend to be less affectionate with strangers than many other breeds.
While they can be incredibly loyal to their families, they are often described as naturally protective and can be suspicious of people they don’t know.
3. Cocker Spaniel
Perhaps the most surprising breed on the list was cocker spaniels. Often associated with their floppy ears, friendly appearance, and affectionate temperament, cocker spaniels are one of the UK’s most popular family dogs.
Originally bred as hunting dogs, they are intelligent, energetic, and eager to please. However, some experts have previously discussed a phenomenon known as “cocker rage syndrome” – a rare condition linked to sudden aggressive outbursts in a small number of dogs.
Amir’s addition of the breed left many viewers stunned, with numerous people confessing they would never have anticipated seeing cocker spaniels feature on the list. One user said: “Never met a friendly cocker spaniel or chow chow.”
Another user added: “I dunno every time someone’s told me their chihuahua is evil and I’m in it’s presence it’s somehow a miracle it’s sitting beside me all happy.” A third user said: “I have four English cocker spaniels and they never bite anyone.”
