When it comes to royal style, two women continue to shape the conversation. This autumn, Princess Kate and Meghan Markle are showing just how differently influence can be worn.

The Duchess of Sussex has been leaning into minimalist luxury with her neutral tones and precision tailoring. The Princess of Wales has been quietly reclaiming British heritage fashion, proving that power dressing can be both purposeful and patriotic.

It’s clear fashion rivalry is back, but in a new form. Gone are the ball gowns and statement hats; as the two women’s trouser suits and casual wear are pitted against one another.

Celebrity stylist Ciara Russell exclusively told the Daily Express that both women’s wardrobes now mirror their identities and the paths they’ve chosen to take.

“Kate’s style has definitely evolved this autumn – it feels sharper, more refined, and a lot more tailored,” Russell said.

“She’s really embraced that business-chic aesthetic. The structure in her looks gives her a modern sense of authority while still feeling timeless and feminine.”

For Meghan, simplicity remains her power move. But for Kate, it’s craftsmanship. rich textures, heritage checks, and sculpted silhouettes that whisper rather than shout.

“Kate’s palette feels distinctly British – the greys, greens and navies have that countryside elegance,” added Russell, who has styled some of the biggest names in showbiz.

“Meghan’s tones are more Californian and minimalist. They both dress true to their personalities – just in very different ways.”

Kate’s recent looks read like a love letter to British design. Tweed jackets, wool trousers and beautifully structured outerwear all nod to heritage fashion’s revival.

“Heritage dressing is a big trend this season,” Russell said, “and Kate’s managed to blend it seamlessly with her own sense of elegance. The tweeds, earthy tones and structured silhouettes nod to classic British style, but the sharp tailoring keeps everything current.”

Gone are the jewel tones and coatdresses of her early royal years. Now, moss green, charcoal and soft camel dominate her palette. The colours represent quiet confidence.

What unites both women, despite an ocean between them, is an understanding that clothes can speak louder than words.

“It feels as though Kate’s using her wardrobe to reflect her purpose,” added the expert. “The clean lines and smart tailoring project professionalism and focus – it’s less about being styled and more about substance.”

Where Meghan’s beige and black suits whisper Hollywood polish, Kate’s tweeds and tailoring declare heritage authority. Two women, two continents, each rewriting what it means to dress with purpose in 2025.
