The renowned Marlborough Hotel in Llandudno, Wales, has been forced to close due to soaring costs and a wave of cancellations. The iconic seafront establishment with over a century’s history, has announced its official closure.

The 40-room hotel was bought by Jean Murphy and her late husband, John, for £1.3million in 2007. In a statement, owner Jean Murphy said: “With great sadness, The Marlborough Hotel has announced its closure after many years at the heart of the community. The decision follows a long period of rising costs and an unprecedented number of cancellations that made it impossible for the hotel to continue operating.

“For those who worked there and those who visited, the hotel was far more than a business. It was a place filled with warmth, memories, and the kind of hospitality that can only come from people who truly care.

“This has been an incredibly painful decision. This hotel has been part of my life for so long, and watching it come to an end is heartbreaking. What made this place special wasn’t the building – it was the people,” reports the Mirror.

“At the centre of that sentiment is the dedicated team who have given years of service. Many staff members have been with the hotel for decades or more, forming bonds with guests and each other that felt more like family than work.

“Our staff have been the soul of this hotel. They have shown loyalty, kindness, and resilience through every challenge. They welcomed guests as if they were welcoming them into their own homes. Their commitment has been extraordinary, and I will never be able to thank them enough. To everyone who supported us – our guests, our neighbours, our friends – thank you.

“Your encouragement and loyalty have meant the world. Although this chapter is closing, the memories we’ve shared will stay with us forever.”
