I save hundreds each year at Sainsbury’s by doing one thing before I shop

I also love the Nectar loyalty scheme the supermarket offers, and I’ve made huge savings over the last few years. Recently, I’ve made even more savings by using their personalised shopper discounts.

If you shop regularly at Sainsbury’s, there’s one feature you shouldn’t ignore: Your Netar Prices.

These aren’t just standard Nectar cardholder discounts; they’re personalised prices created specifically for you. Once I started using them properly, I realised how much money I’d been saving.

Each week, the Nectar App gives you a selection of products at exclusive lower prices, often items you purchase regularly or similar to your usual shop.

Instead of generic offers for everyone, these are tailored to your shopping habits.

However, there’s a catch, and you must activate them in the Nectar App before you shop every week.

It’s become part of my routine, but sometimes it is easy to forget. Simply open the app, go to the “Your Nectar Prices” section, and tap to unlock the offers.

This needs to be done before scanning your Nectar card in the store, or before you use scan as you shop.

If you don’t activate them first, the discount won’t apply, even if you scan your card.

The savings vary each week, but I regularly see money off branded items I buy often, discounts on cupboard staples and lower prices on my favourite items.

For example, this week I can save 55p on Dettol Multipurpose Floor Cleaning Wipes, nearly 30p off caster sugar, 40p off oat drink and 25p off a cucumber. Further savings I can make include cat treats, crisps and strawberries.

It was rolled out last July, and at the time, Sainsbury’s said customers would get up to 10 personalised offers each week
