‘I had no idea about this game-changing iPhone feature’
iPhone users are experiencing a collective lightbulb moment as some finally discover a built-in feature that makes app organisation effortless – and I’m one of them. I enjoy my phone having a minimalist and tidy home screen, with all my apps neatly stashed away in folders.
This is more to help stop me from getting sidetracked by apps like Instagram or TikTok when I have emails to answer or important jobs to get sorted. Knowing this feature sooner could have saved me countless hours.
Usually, iPhone users would press and hold onto the screen until icons begin to wiggle, then tediously adjust, drag and shuffle them individually. But there’s a simple yet hidden trick that can give you back so much precious time.
A video below demonstrates how it works. For convenience, we’ve also provided a straightforward step-by-step guide, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Press and hold any app in your App Library (home screen) until everything starts to jiggle.
- Hold onto the app you want to move and slightly move your finger to start the drag and drop process.
- With your spare hand, start to tap on other apps you want to move to the same location. This will start the stacking process.
- Once everything is selected, simply drop in the desired location and all your chosen apps will follow
It appears I was far from alone in being oblivious to this hidden gem. Many responded to Trevor’s video (@trevorlong) with their astonishment and the hours they will now save when organising their apps.
One user said: “I JUST rearranged all my apps for 5 hrs before I saw this!” Another added: “I literally shouted WHAT at my screen just now!”
A third user wondered: “Where has this been my whole life?” Meanwhile, someone else posted: “Wow, I’ve had an iPhone for years and never knew you could do that!”
A fifth called this feature a “Game changer”. A different TikTok user wrote: “Great tip, I just finished doing it the hard way!”
iPhones are brimming with so many features that it’s quite understandable if you’re not aware of the full extent of what the device in your pocket can actually do. A quick online search reveals a veritable treasure trove of information that could revolutionise how you use your phone.
The New York Times has compiled a list of 18 features that not every iPhone user is aware of. It details how your camera could actually identify specific plants and animals or be used as a portable white noise machine.
You can schedule text messages to be sent at a later time or enable a ‘hidden’ button that performs whatever function you want it to. See the full list here.
