I bought a candle from Aldi’s middle aisle — it’s £18 cheaper than Yankee Candle

I love Aldi’s middle aisle and often visit my local store throughout the week to look for Specialbuys. One of my favourite purchases at this time of year is candles. The middle aisle is usually filled with winter-spiced, gourmand, and pine-scented candles that smell divine. However, some of the candles in Aldi can be a little disappointing. What smells good in-store doesn’t always translate when they’re burning at home.

Recently, while doing a quick food shop, I picked up a pretty floral candle from the middle aisle, which was a part of Aldi’s Hotel Collection. Priced at just £6.99 and with a pretty floral design on the front, I decided to give it a quick sniff to see if it smelled as good as it looked.

There were several scents available but I was drawn to the Rose & Clove scent as I love the smell of roses.

When I got it home, I wasn’t expecting much. Sometimes, candles can smell amazing in the shop but the scent doesn’t carry once it’s lit.

However, I was pleasantly surprised. One of my favourite candles from Yankee Candle is their Fresh Cut Roses scented candle. It’s a fresh rose smell that is strong enough to fill a room with the powdery scent of roses.

The only downside is the price. Yankee Candle isn’t cheap. A medium jar candle costs £24.99 and a large jar costs £29.99 on their website.

Despite being around £20 cheaper, Aldi’s Rose & Clove candle was just as strong and filled my room with the floral scent of roses.

Even though the candle is rose and clove, the clove scent isn’t too noticeable, adding a subtle base note.

Aldi’s rose candle is just 350g while Yankee Candle’s medium jar is 411g, but for just £6.99, and with an impressive 49-hour burn time, I think Aldi’s offering is definitely worth the price.

The ceramic candle comes in two other scents: Fig Tree and Sweet Iris. The candles are available while stock lasts.

While I was in Aldi, I was also tempted to pick up their hot chocolate scented candle which costs just £4.99.

The scent is very chocolatey with a hint of mint and milk. If you like gourmand scents, I’d highly recommend this candle or perhaps Aldi’s Praline Cream candle.
