How to remove yellow stains from clothes using 65p DIY solution

As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, Brits are spending increasing amounts of time outdoors. Yet this brings with it the problem of clothing stains, which are particularly noticeable on white garments.

Whether caused by perspiration, deodorant or sun cream, stubborn yellow marks can prove difficult to shift. Even after washing items at high temperatures, yellow stains often remain visible. Fortunately, cleaning specialists at Shark Clean have revealed their top removal techniques for tackling these marks this spring. The experts said: “Choose an oxygen-powered stain remover, or make a paste from baking soda and water.

“Brush your stain remover onto the yellow areas to target them.” Baking soda offers a natural solution for removing marks, and can be bought for as little as 60p from supermarkets.

Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, eliminates stains by functioning as an absorbent, neutraliser, and gentle abrasive.

Simply leave the treatment to work for 20 minutes, or for more persistent marks, allow the treatment to sit overnight.

Afterwards, wash the garment on your regular cycle in the washing machine, repeating the process if required.

For sun cream marks, typically found around the collar area, the specialists recommend using washing detergent and hot water.

The experts said: “Fill a sink or bowl with hot water and washing powder, following the manufacturer’s instructions for quantities, or substitute washing powder for white vinegar.” Submerge the item in the solution and allow it to soak for a short period before proceeding to the following step.

For particularly stubborn stains, opt for an oxygen-powered stain remover, or create a paste using bicarbonate of soda and water.

Apply the stain remover directly onto the yellowed areas, leaving it to soak for a minimum of 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.

Next, put the garment through your regular washing machine cycle, repeating the treatment where needed.

Ensure the clothing is completely dry before assessing the outcome.
