An Oscar-winning horror film has been described as “unnerving”, and it’s currently available on BBC iPlayer. The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Academy Award winner Daniel Kaluuya, Girls actress Allison Williams, Lil Rel Howery, LaKeith Stanfield, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, Catherine Keener and Betty Gabriel.

Released in 2017, the film centres on Chris and his partner Rose, who have reached the significant meet-the-parents stage of their relationship. Rose extends an invitation to her boyfriend for a weekend getaway with her parents, Missy and Dean. Initially, Chris interprets the family’s excessively welcoming demeanour as anxious efforts to navigate their daughter’s interracial romance, but as the weekend unfolds, a succession of progressively unsettling revelations leads him towards a reality he could never have anticipated.

On film review platform Rotten Tomatoes, Get Out holds an almost flawless rating of 98% with audience reviews and feedback lauding the production.

One critique stated: “It’s one of the rare movies I’d rewatch. The mix of shadowy, dark scenes and bright, intense moments gives it a unique vibe.” Another commented: “Original and executed so well. We will remember this movie centuries from now.

“Pretty much a perfect film, it’s honestly hard to see a reason to give it less than five stars. It’s funny when it needs to be and scary when it has to be. The concept is awesome and the racial themes are so well executed,” remarked a third viewer.

A fourth commented: “Really enjoyed this film. It isn’t super gory or gruesome but has an amazing story that you get to gradually see unfold and understand at the same time as the main character. Beautifully filmed and really well made. Will definitely be rewatching soon.”

A fifth remarked: “One of the most gripping movies I’ve seen in years. For once, the hype was actually deserved. From the opening scene, it hooks you and never lets go, balancing razor-sharp tension with genuinely smart social commentary. The performances are fantastic across the board, especially Kaluuya, who carries every quiet, unsettling moment perfectly.

“It’s unsettling, funny, and brutal in the best way, and it sticks the landing without losing its nerve. Easily one of those movies that makes you want to rewatch it just to catch everything you missed the first time.”

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a film this unnerving. This makes Get Out extraordinarily unsettling and worth anyone’s time,” another viewer stated.

However, not every review proved favourable, as one viewer slammed the film, writing: “Is it me or is it one the worst movies I’ve seen in years? I heard so much about it and my expectations were so high. But was I saw eventually was just lame and stupid. Just a waste of time.”

Another added: “Terrible. I don’t even know what to say. Besides don’t watch this movie. Unless you are truly bored and have nothing else to do.”

“The plot is rather boring and fantastical in the sense that its over-the-top fiction,” a third person commented.

Get Out is now available on BBC iPlayer.
