Home buyer urged to ‘call police’ after making basement find

They said: “I found a walled off room during inspection in the basement of this house I’m buying. The house is only 19 years old. What do you think this is?”

The space wasn’t easy to spot either. According to the buyer, they had to climb up a ladder and peer through a gap between the joists just to get a glimpse inside.

From there, they could make out what looked like an entirely sealed-off room – with no obvious door, no clear access point, and no explanation as to why it was even there in the first place.

Inside, the room appeared unfinished and abandoned, with bare walls and random items scattered across the floor. This gave it an eerie, almost forgotten feel.

Unsurprisingly, the post quickly gained traction online, with thousands of people weighing in after seeing the footage. And while some tried to offer logical explanations, others were far less convinced.

One user said: “I think you should be asking where the exit door is because hell no.”

Another added: “Now that there is a non-zero chance that your new house has been used as something dodgy, I’d be speaking to the estate agent straight away.”

Others suggested it could simply be a leftover crawl space or storage area that had been sealed up during construction. However, many admitted it seemed odd given how relatively new the property is.

That’s what seems to be throwing most people off – and some even urged the house buyer to consider calling the police to investigate further.

With older homes, hidden rooms and strange layouts aren’t completely unheard of. But in a house that’s less than two decades old, the idea of a fully concealed space with no access point has left people scratching their heads.

For now, there’s still no clear answer as to why the room exists or what it was originally used for.

But one thing’s for sure – it’s definitely not something most buyers expect to find when they go in for a standard home inspection.
