When it comes to festive entertainment, Home Alone remains an unbeatable favourite, yet eagle-eyed devotees of this festive classic have  recently spotted something they simply cannot ignore. Some viewers have gone so far as to claim it’s cast a shadow over their Christmas celebrations, such is the impact of this discovery.

The revelation emerged on TikTok courtesy of film enthusiast Kristian, who operates under the handle 1minutecritic, sharing footage that appears to expose several supposed slip-ups in the beloved movie. Despite its status as a Christmas staple, it seems certain gaffes have escaped notice until now, prompting some fans to declare their festive spirit utterly “ruined”.

Within his clip, Kristian detailed a handful of “mistakes” in the production that typically go unnoticed by audiences, and one involving a sled left people stunned. This isn’t the first occasion that observers have identified potential errors in this cherished family film either.

What are the mistakes?

The video laid it all bare. The narrator explained: “Our first mistake comes during the morning the McCallisters are rushing to get to the airport. We see the kid from across the street bothering one of the van drivers.

“In this scene, when the van driver says ‘gee kid, I don’t know, hit the road’, you can clearly see the kid mouthing the exact same words as the man speaks. Why did they leave this in the movie? It’s so obvious. What a huge mistake.”

Kristian added: “The next mistake comes as Kevin is getting ready to ride the sled down the stairs. Now, as a kid, this one always bothered me, because you can clearly see that the stairs don’t perfectly align with the front door.

“But, even though Kevin still somehow makes it out the front door, when he’s airborne, you can see wheels at the bottom of the sled. I’m pretty sure that’s something most sleds aren’t equipped with, and now to the case of the magically changing pants.”

He further elaborated on the inconsistencies, noting that when Kevin departs from the church after conversing with his elderly neighbour, he’s seen in “dark coloured” trousers. However, upon reaching home, these mysteriously transform into blue jeans.

Later, he reappears in the darker trousers while setting up traps for Marv and Harry. This particular wardrobe switch left viewers astounded.

Despite these minor blunders, he confessed his enduring love for the film, proving that even beloved classics are not immune to errors.

What’s the public verdict?

The video has sparked a flurry of comments since its release, with viewers expressing their surprise at having overlooked these mistakes. One viewer admitted: “I honestly never noticed any of that.”

Another playfully accused: “You are ruining the movie.” A third chimed in with: “I noticed none of these. Now I will never unsee it. ” Meanwhile, another lamented: “Christmas ruined. Thanks man.”

However, some viewers remained unfazed by the errors. One fan declared: “This movie could have 1,000 flaws and I’d still love it.” Another wrote: “Those mistakes keep you talking about it. It’s meant to be left in there.”

Adding to the chorus of praise, one more admirer shared: “Still by far my favourite holiday movie. Even my kids love it. Home Alone one and two. Classics!”
