A heartwarming film that is making fans “cry” is now available to stream for free and it is perfect for a cosy Autumn night in.

Pixar’s Elio was released in cinemas back in June 2025, but it has now finally landed on Disney Plus today (September 17), much to the excitement of fans. It follows the story of a young boy who is taken from earth by aliens.

A huge mix up sees him mistaken for the planet’s leader. Disney teases: “The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession.

“So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking.”

Elio soon forms new bonds with eccentric lifeforms and must “discover who and where he is truly meant to be.”

Despite some controversey during its cinema release, the film has secured a firm fan base who say it is a “must watch”. With a score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, one viewer said: “OMG, I don’t know where to start.

“Saw it in movies, and watched it 3 times over, and I’m still not tired. Elio is cute, relatable (in some ways) and characters and plot is awesome. Totally must see.”

Another said: “This movie made me cry, but in a very nice way. The fact that everybody from around the world was trying to help them fly was touching. Pixar always makes amazing and touching moments.”

A third added: “One of the best movies to come out of Disney in quite a while.” A fourth added it was their “new favourite movie.”

Over on Google reviews, one fan said: “Elio is a film that truly shines, offering a unique and deeply relatable experience that left a lasting impression.”

Another commented: ” I’ve heard so much criticism for this movie but almost cried at least 5 times while watching it. It’s a really beautiful movie that I think everyone should give a chance before listening to someone else.”

Disney Plus previously revealed new content highlighting the “unforgettable moments from recent fan favourites as well as beloved classics, which can all be enjoyed at home on the streaming platform.

Elio’s debut onto the platform, follows the success of last year’s ‘Inside Out 2’ which became the top premiere on Disney Plus in 2024.
