Harry Styles Appreciation Day Declared by Manhattan Borough President
Every day is Harry Styles Appreciation Day if you listen to “Lights Up” enough, but Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal is marking the celebration with an official recognition.
Friday, Oct. 30 will be dedicated to recognizing “his contributions to music and the unforgettable memories created on one of New York City’s most iconic stages,” Hoylman-Sigal said in his proclamation of Harry Styles Appreciation Day. Friday will mark the penultimate night of Styles’ 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden, where he’s performed every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday since Aug. 26.
“Harry Styles is a once-in-a-generation musical talent who has enthralled tens of millions of fans with his euphoric, deeply personal, and unapologetically expressive songs,” Hoylman-Sigal said in a statement. “From working as a part-time baker in England to conquering the world’s most iconic stages, Harry Styles has defined how to rise to the top with positivity, grace, and humility.”
In the proclamation, Hoylman-Sigal said, “His music, individuality, and connection with audiences have left a lasting impression on fans and the city alike.” Styles has spent long periods of time in New York before. He played two nights at MSG in 2018, five in 2021, and 15 in 2022. But the 30-night stretch of his Together, Together residency has allowed the singer to immerse himself in the city. Styles has been spotting walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan on show days, popping into coffee shops, and chatting with fans on the street.
The last time Styles was in New York, it was easy to tell based on the amount of stray feathers left behind from the boas fans wore to his shows. For this run, it became normal to have him around each week — each show was just another night at the Garden. But even Styles is feeling the impending blues that will accompany having to say goodbye for now.
On Wednesday night, at the final regular show before two back-to-back Harryween concerts, Styles performed “Ever Since New York,” a deep cut from his self-titled debut, for the first time in four years. The track hasn’t been a staple in his setlist since 2017. Now, he saves it for special occasions. The last time he performed it was in honor of his fifteenth night at MSG back in 2022.
