Hands-on with the Apple Home Collection
We’ve just gotten a closer look at Apple’s new video doorbell, security cameras, a door lock, and thermostats following the company’s “Welcome Home” event on Tuesday. The six new devices are part of a new Apple Home Collection, which the company co-developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
The LG smart lock costs $349 and comes with support for Apple Home Key, allowing you to unlock your door hands-free with UWB. You can unlock the door with a PIN code, too, or by using the physical keyhole beneath the keypad.
There’s also a new $249 video doorbell from LG. It comes with two cameras that support up to 2.5K resolution, allowing you to record your visitors as well as see when packages are delivered to your doorstep. The doorbell has a motion-activated light as well.
A pair of LG outdoor and indoor security cameras sport a tubular design that matches the video doorbell. The plug-in indoor camera costs $199 and records videos in up to 2.5K resolution. It moves up and down automatically, and you can set it to face downward when you return home. Meanwhile, Apple is releasing two versions of its wired outdoor camera: a $399 model with motion-activated floodlights and a cheaper $299 model without lights.
Lastly, we got a closer look at Apple’s round LG smart thermostat and a square one from Schneider Electric. They cost $199 and support Matter.
