‘Gripping’ horror film with 90% Rotten Tomatoes score now on Prime Video | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Nothing will quite get you into the Halloween spirit like a horror movie marathon. There are plenty of films to choose from on Prime Video this spooky season. When it comes to choosing the perfect film to sit down and enjoy, the sheer amount of choice on streaming platforms can be overwhelming, which is why we’ve taken the guesswork out of movie night. REC was released in 2007 and has a whopping score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 00s flick is widely considered by fans as one of the best found-footage horror films, and even one fan described it as the “runner-up to the Blair Witch [Project].”
On the website, the synopsis teases: “A reporter (Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman record the horrifying outbreak of a disease that turns humans into vicious cannibals.”
One five-star review said online: “REC is probably the best ‘found footage’ horror movie out there — not sure how you label Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which is phenomenal. At only 77 minutes, Angela Vidal’s (Manuela Velasco) night goes from mundane to monstrous, after joining a crew of firefighters on an emergency call at an apartment building in Barcelona.”
A second glowing review also commented: “My favourite film of all time; a riveting thrill ride from start to finish. Rec 2 is also fantastic and I’d recommend watching it immediately after this, but this film is genuinely PERFECT.”
A third also chimed in: “REC stands as a shining example of the found-footage genre, skilfully utilising its format to heighten suspense and deliver an immersive horror experience that keeps viewers enthralled from start to finish.”
One top critic from Total Film said: “Gripping, unsettling and truly horrific, [REC] is much more than the gimmick suggested by its title. Prepare to squirm, wince and wonder at how a potential Blair Witch knock-off is quite so grimy and engrossing. And don’t eat dinner before you see it.”
A second critic also said: “The final reel is real eyes-behind-your-fingers type stuff with the filmmakers cranking up the audience’s apprehension to I-really-would-rather-be-somewhere-else levels.”
You can watch REC on Prime Video now.
