Gene Hackman’s net worth after tragic death as actor found dead at home | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV
The staggering net worth of legendary actor Gene Hackman has been disclosed following the heartbreaking news of his death at 95.
Reports emerged today that the iconic star was tragically found dead in his home, alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their pet dog. However, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza has stated that the deaths are not suspected to be a result of foul play.
Sheriff Mendoza did not reveal the cause or time of death but reassured the local community that there was “no immediate danger” to others and they were in the “middle of a preliminary death investigation”.
Hackman, who was also a novelist, had an illustrious movie career spanning from 1964’s Lilith to his role as Monroe Cole in Welcome to Mooseport in 2004. He bagged over 30 awards, including two Oscars, two BAFTAS, and four Golden Globes.
Throughout his extensive career, Hackman clinched an Oscar for Best Actor in 1972 for his portrayal of Jimmy ‘Popeye’ Doyle in The French Connection and another for Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven. Over the years, he amassed a considerable fortune, with a total net worth of $80 million (approximately £63 million), according to Celebrity Net Worth, reports the Mirror.
The Hollywood legend had a career spanning over 100 roles in 85 films, as well as TV and stage appearances. His iconic performances include playing Lex Luthor in the Superman series, Buck Barrow in the classic ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, and Royal Tenenbaum in Wes Anderson’s acclaimed ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’.
Born in 1930, Hackman lied about his age to enlist in the military at just 16 and served for four years before embarking on his illustrious acting journey. He shot to stardom following his role in the Broadway production ‘Any Wednesday’ in 1964, which paved the way for his first Oscar nomination for ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ and another for ‘I Never Sang for My Father’.
In 2008, Hackman bid farewell to acting, four years after his last movie, turning his talents to writing novels, where he found pleasure in the “loneliness of it.”
He tied the knot with Betsy in 1991, and despite his wealth and fame, the couple largely shunned the limelight. The actor appeared frail during his last public outing with Betsy at Pappadeaux’s in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in March 2024.
Tragically, a statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office confirmed: “On February 26, 2025 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address on Old Sunset Trail in Hyde Park where Gene Hackman, 95 and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, and a dog were found deceased.
“Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time however exact cause of death has not been determined. This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.”
