When it comes to seasonal dry skin, winter often takes the blame. But while cold temperatures and low humidity are notorious for stripping skin of moisture, summer brings its own set of challenges. From air conditioning and prolonged sun exposure to frequent handwashing – especially for those working in healthcare and hospitality – as well as swimming and gardening, plenty of warm-weather habits can leave hands feeling dry, rough and even painfully cracked.

That’s why a hardworking hand cream deserves a permanent place in handbags, on desks or beside the sink all year round. The only challenge many people face is choosing one from the seemingly endless selection.

But one formula generating some serious buzz is Nursem Caring Hand Cream. As the name may suggest, it was developed by a nurse to provide long-lasting comfort for hard-working hands. And it’s won over shoppers who say it delivers ‘instant’ relief while deeply nourishing ‘very dry skin’. Even better, beauty fans can finally pick it up at Boots.

The Nursem Caring Hand Cream Fragrance Free – With Manuka Honey NPA+15 is relatively affordable at £9.99 and has been expertly formulated by an NHS paediatric nurse who personally suffered severe contact dermatitis due to relentless handwashing on hospital wards.

Tested on nurses who wash their hands more than 50 times a day, the hand cream is perfectly suited to those with ultra-sensitive skin, courtesy of its fragrance-free formula.

But there’s more. For a limited period (until July 28), Boots customers can secure 25% off the product by entering the code NURSEM25 at checkout, reports the Mirror.

This reduces the cost of this ‘excellent’ hand cream, which appeared on Dragon’s Den, to £7.49 – though this excludes postage charges, which typically stand at £3.95.

Featuring a fast-absorbing and non-greasy formula, the hand cream contains medical-grade Manuka Honey NPA+15 and White Willow Extra, which help soothe redness and irritation. Meanwhile, Passionflower, Pomegranate and Grape Seed Oils, rich in Omega-3, 5, 6 and 9, assist in moisturising dry, damaged skin barriers.

Additionally, the hand cream is free from mineral oils, silicone, and petrolatum, and is designed to be fragrance-free (scented products can occasionally disrupt the skin barrier).

For relieving dryness and discomfort going forward, the hand cream is enriched with Allantoin and Pro Vitamin B5. It is allegedly suitable for all skin types, including those with eczema, dermatitis, sensitive skin, and more (conditions the brand reports are increasing across all age groups).

It’s recommended to apply immediately after handwashing or sanitising for optimal results.

Consultant dermatologist approved, a wholesome feature of this hand cream is that, as Boots states, ‘For every Nursem product sold, we give a month’s worth of free Nursem to an NHS healthcare professional’, which is a lovely initiative.

Should this particular formula prove unsuitable for your skin type, there are a number of alternative hand creams that have garnered considerable praise from those who struggle with dry skin and hands.

For instance, CeraVe’s Soothing and Repairing Hand Cream, £8, is packed with three ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, working to fortify the skin’s protective barrier while delivering long-lasting moisture.

Meanwhile, Aveeno’s Daily Moisturising Hand Cream is currently reduced on Amazon to £3.99, down from £5.49, and remains a widely favoured option, formulated with nourishing oat to bolster the skin’s natural protective barrier.

It’s evident, though, that the Nursem Caring Hand Cream Fragrance Free – With Manuka Honey NPA+15 is proving a firm favourite amongst those managing various skin conditions, with Boots proudly displaying a flawless five-star rating, while the Nursem website boasts a 4.9-star rating from over 400 reviews. One glowing review of the cream read: “After trying many hand creams, I found that Nursem was the best I’d ever used. I have only bought this one since.”

Another user, who suffers from a skin condition, shared how it’s eased their symptoms (although for medical conditions, always consult a medical professional): “I am a parent and also love gardening so my hands do see a lot of hard work, and as soon as I have used this hand cream I have seen a difference… I have used many hand creams over the years and I can honestly say this was definitely a good one. At £9.99 for a 75ml tube, it is about average [price], but I would pay that for this product again as I can see a difference.”

Someone else remarked: “I’m a potter, amateur archaeologist and gardener… [these activities] absolutely wreck my hands. Finding a cream that actively repairs the skin barrier without leaving everything I touch covered in a greasy film has been incredibly difficult. This is the first one that genuinely sinks in and stops my skin from cracking.”

While the vast majority of feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, a handful of shoppers on sites such as SpaceNK have highlighted a few minor downsides. One four-star review shared: “My hands are always very dry and cracked in the winter, so after reading lots of reviews, I tried this. I did like it and hands felt noticeably softer, the only reason for 4 stars is I didn’t love the texture. It left my hands feeling quite tacky after applying, so I’ll just be using it overnight in future.”

Nevertheless, the Nursem Caring Hand Cream Fragrance Free – With Manuka Honey NPA+15 has proven a firm favourite amongst most dry skin sufferers, with one customer declaring it as exceptional: “Nursem is a unique and exceptional product. There’s no other hand care product like it. My husband uses it too – he’s a builder with rough, calloused hands, I work in hospitality – constantly washing my hands and also washing up a lot! It’s just the best way to soothe and care for our hard-working hands! My heart is filled with joy that we are helping wonderful nurses and midwives, too.”

Another fan added: “As a PE teacher, I’m constantly outside in the elements. My hands during the winter months become extremely dry and split. Over the years, I have brought numerous hand creams, but none have helped my cracked, flaky, dry and sensitive hands. The other hand creams would sting my hands or have no effect.

“After 2 days of using Nursem, there was already a noticeable difference. A week later, my hands are soft and no longer sore. Thank you so much, Nursem. I am no longer in pain with my hands and have soft skin.”

The Nursem Caring Hand Cream Fragrance Free – With Manuka Honey NPA+15 is now available at Boots.
