The warning relates to Indo Asian Foods’ ‘Malabar Choice Spicy Kerala Mixture’ available in England. A particular batch of the product contains undeclared milk, which could put anyone with allergies or intolerances at risk.

A notice published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has explained: “Indo Asian Foods is recalling Malabar Choice Spicy Kerala Mixture because it contains milk which is not mentioned on the label…This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

The recall specifically concerns 275g packs of Malabar Choice Spicy Kerala Mixture with the batch code ‘ARC 109’ and a best-before date of December 2026. While no illnesses or complaints have been reported to Indo Asian Foods to date, the firm said its recall is a ‘precautionary step to ensure the safety and satisfaction’ of customers.

A notice from Indo Asian Foods also added: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Product safety and quality remain our highest priorities.”

Anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance to its components is advised not to consume the product and should return it to their place of purchase for a complete refund. No receipt is necessary for this process.

Customers requiring additional support can contact Indo Asian Foods via telephone on 07377970314 or email accounts@indoasianfoods. com. The complete recall notice can also be accessed in full here.

What is an ‘allergy alert’?

Allergy alerts are issued when a food product presents an allergy risk, signalling it must not be sold. Such products are typically ‘withdrawn’ or ‘recalled’ from retailers to prevent further danger to shoppers.

Guidance from the FSA adds: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
