Flight attendant lists 8 dos and don’ts you should follow
A flight attendant has revealed a list of dos and don’ts for anyone preparing to travel by plane.
Barbara Bacilieri, who documents her career in the aviation industry on social media, offered several recommendations to guarantee you enjoy a safe and pleasant flight.
It seems many are eager to heed her guidance – with more than 11 million TikTok users watching her instructional video. So here’s everything she believes you need to know:
Barbara urged passengers to avoid sitting in the incorrect direction, hunched on their seat, facing their backrest. With 14 years’ experience under her belt, she stated: “And don’t sleep on the floor of the plane. The carpet is very dirty and you have to wear your seatbelt.”
2. Follow reclining etiquette
The 33-year old also recommends passengers refrain from reclining their seat if the person seated directly behind them is eating. Barbara demonstrated that unexpected movements can knock food from their hands, adding: “This is because the tray tables are connected to the seat in front.”
Cabin crew member Barbara, who has 4.9 million TikTok followers and 2.8 million YouTube subscribers, also encouraged people to be considerate about where they are resting.
“Don’t sleep lying down with your head in the aisle,” she cautioned. “The flight attendants can accidentally bump into you when they pass by with the cart.”
The flight attendant, who is based in Spain, is firmly opposed to passengers getting overly intimate with their partners. She stated: “Above all, don’t sleep two to a bed in the same seat.”
In a follow-up video, Barbara urged passengers to avoid placing “snotty tissues in the seat pocket”. Sadly, this is a disgusting problem that crew members often have to deal with.
She elaborated: “This pocket is very difficult to clean, it’s better to put them in a bag and throw them away later. Believe it or not, I’ve seen this a lot on the plane.”
Some spillages are unavoidable – but do your utmost to keep mess to a minimum. Barbara advises passengers to avoid carrying loose liquids in their hand luggage. Instead, she recommends placing them in a silicone-covered container “to prevent spills”.
Barbara also recommended bringing your own food aboard the flight because the meal service could be cancelled if there’s turbulence. She advised: “It’s better to bring tasty things with you.”
To stave off boredom during the flight, Barbara closed by suggesting downloading your own films and TV series onto an electronic device in case your seat lacks a screen. After all, nobody wants to spend the entire flight gazing at the back of the seat in front!
