Five beloved superhero films are coming to Netflix this month. Spider-Man, a superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for Marvel Comics, has appeared in film numerous times.
Spider-Man is the secret identity of Peter Parker, who was raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, New York City. Peter gets his powers and abilities after he was bitten by a radioactive spider, including superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes and durability, clinging to surfaces and ceilings, and detecting danger with his precognitive “spider-sense”. After learning that “with great power comes great responsibility”, he uses his powers to fight crime as Spider-Man. Three of the films coming to Netflix are Sam Raimi’s 2002 to 2007 trilogy, starring Tobey Maguire as the eponymous character. The series also stars Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Alfred Molina, and Topher Grace. The first film was nominated for two Oscars and has a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The second has a 93% score and the third has a 63% score.
The website’s consensus reads: “Not only does Spider-Man provide a good dose of web-swinging fun, it also has a heart, thanks to the combined charms of director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire.”
The other two films are Marc Webb’s films starring Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. The 2012 and 2014 films also star Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, and Jamie Foxx.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first film has a 71% score and the second has a 51% score. The website’s consensus reads: “A well-chosen cast and sure-handed direction allows The Amazing Spider-Man to thrill despite revisiting many of the same plot points from 2002’s Spider-Man.”
The films coming to Netflix on February 3, according to NewOnNetflix:
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).
