Zara Tindall looked stunning as she stepped out in a chic black and white design by Lauren Green at Royal Ascot last Thursday. Princess Anne’s daughter showcased her fashion flair by completing the ensemble with a pair of Emmy London heels, adorned with dazzling clip-on accents.

The 46-year-old opted for gold dome shoe clips from the British label—a long-standing favourite among royals. These accessories are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, especially for adding a unique, personalised touch to footwear.

While no longer as ubiquitous as they once were, shoe clips are making a stylish comeback—particularly among brides and fashion-forward individuals seeking a hint of glamour and versatility, with leading fashion stylist Ciara Russell sharing her exclusive expertise with the Daily Express.

Weighing in on Zara’s head-turning look, Ciara said: “I thought she looked amazing! So elegant but still playful.

“The shoe clips added a little sparkle and tied the whole outfit together. It’s such a simple touch but it made the look feel really elevated and personal,” she continued.

The expert noted that this was a bold move for Zara, as it clearly reflected her stance on sustainable fashion, mentioning that she is “a lot more conscious now about buying less and reusing.”

She added: “This is such a smart way to do that. You can completely transform a pair of shoes without replacing them, which feels way more sustainable and creative too.”

Over the past few months, there has been a noticeable surge in the popularity of shoe clips, with Ciara explaining that, “people are just loving the idea of getting more out of what they already have.”

The stylist continued: “Shoe clips are such a fun way to switch up a look without having to buy new shoes all the time. They feel vintage but in a cool, modern way and they make an outfit feel more thought-out.”

The accessory is a perfect staple for weddings, glamorous events, or even just to elevate an outfit you’ve worn before.

And they’re not limited to heels — you can add them to almost any type of shoe.

Ciara described them as “nostalgic.” She concluded: “They give that old school glamour vibe but still feel super relevant now. It’s all about adding those little details that make an outfit feel special.”
