London fashion label Kitri has announced it is closing down after nine years in business, becoming the latest high street and online retailer to shut its doors amid tough trading conditions.

The womenswear brand, which has been worn by stars including Charli Howard, Gemma Chan, Holly Willoughby and Lisa Snowdon, confirmed the news in an emotional statement shared on Instagram.

The company wrote: “After nine incredible years, I’m sad to share that Kitri will be closing its doors in the coming weeks.”

The statement continued: “Building Kitri has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. What started as a small independent brand grew into something far bigger than I could have ever imagined – worn and loved by women around the world.”

Founder Haeni Kim said the decision had not been taken lightly and revealed the business had explored “every possible avenue” before deciding closure was “the only responsible path forward”.

Kitri, which is sold independently and through Marks and Spencer, is best known for its colourful statement dresses, bold prints and limited-run collections, carving out a loyal following among fashion fans and celebrities alike since launching in 2017.

Following the announcement, several famous faces shared their sadness in the comments section.

This Morning star Lisa Snowdon wrote: “I’m so so sad to hear this. Thank you for giving me such gorgeous pieces over the years.”

Strictly star Angela Scanlon added: “So so sad to hear this xx.”

Chef and broadcaster Gizzi Erskine commented: “Noooo this is so awful. Thank you for everything.”

Podcaster and writer Elizabeth Day also paid tribute, writing: “I’m so sorry. You built something great.”

As part of the closure process, Kitri confirmed customers will still be able to shop archive pieces and its final spring collection at discounted prices, while deliveries and returns will continue as normal for now.

The closure comes amid ongoing struggles across the retail sector, with a growing number of fashion brands and high street chains either collapsing, scaling back or shutting stores entirely in recent years as businesses battle rising costs and weaker consumer spending.

In its final message to customers, Kitri said: “Thank you for the last nine years and I hope these pieces continue to bring you joy for years to come.”
