Fans ‘love’ new film that delivers ‘truly British performance’ | Films | Entertainment

Cinemagoers will no doubt already have this film on their radar. The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released on April 20, and fans are “loving” it.

The comedy-drama film was directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the duo who wrote the original film back in 2006. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are reprising their roles, this time joined by Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu and Kenneth Branagh.

Set two decades after the events of the first film, it was filmed in Manhattan and Milan, with additional filming in Newark, New Jersey.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel -Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in 20th Century Studios’.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has amassed an incredible 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critics’ consensus states: “Meryl Streep still wears Miranda Priestly like a finely-tailored suit in this sinfully enjoyable sequel, which is dressed to the nines in off-the-rack wish fulfilment and some trenchant observations about the state of modern media.”

One critic wrote: “For those who have been waiting 20 years for a solid follow-up film, this was it…Watching this 20 years later felt like a natural progression of each character’s story, and it felt like a necessary part two rather than an unnecessary sequel.”

Another said: “It’s the portrait of the publishing world that sets the film apart – a portrait that will be only too familiar to anyone working in the media today, and to the many thousands who have found themselves surplus to requirements.”

The audience, however, rates it higher at 85%, stating: “With its all-star cast dressed to the nines and an empowering story that fittingly expands the saga, The Devil Wears Prada 2 proves that a classic can be restyled with the right accessories – and this one is a showstopper.”

One fan said: “I really love the movie. It is better than the first one.”

Another applauded the “truly British performance” given by Blunt.

“Great movie, lots of nostalgia. We had a group of 7 of us ranging in ages 21 to 51, and we all enjoyed it,” added a third.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is out in cinemas now.
