Everything we know about The Devil Wears Prada sequel | Films | Entertainment
Twenty years on from the release of The Devil Wears Prada, we are being graced with a sequel to the iconic movie. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, the film follows recent college graduate Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the powerful editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway. Andy struggles with working at the magazine and starts to find her footing with the help of co-worker Nigel (Stanley Tucci) and even Priestley’s first assistant, Emily (Emily Blunt). However, as Andy grows into her role at the magazine, she struggles to balance her personal life alongside her long-term career goals.
The film is currently in production, with a release date set for May 1, 2026. The primary cast, including Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci, have all been confirmed to return for the second outing.
Deadline reports that Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley has also joined the production in an unknown role. Variety added that Hollywood stars Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet have also signed on, along with Broadway actors Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora; it’s all very starry and exciting.
It’s not just the stars who are returning for The Devil Wears Prada 2 – the core creative team is back in action too.
David Frankel will return to direct, having since worked on Marley & Me, Hope Springs and Collateral Beauty. The original film’s producer, Wendy Finerman, is also returning alongside Aline Brosh McKenna, who will once again write the screenplay. Since 2006, she has also written Cruella, Morning Glory, 27 Dresses, and I Don’t Know How She Does It.
The Devil Wears Prada sequel is reportedly set to focus on the decline of print media and will feature former adversaries going against one another once more.
According to Puck, the logline reads: “The storyline being discussed focuses on Miranda Priestly, Streep’s Wintour-esque protagonist, at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She’s forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”
The Devil Wears Prada will be released on May 1, 2026.
