Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and co-star Catherine Laga’aia arrived on the banks of the River Thames in London today to promote the highly anticipated launch of Disney’s live-action Moana. The new film, which hits cinemas on Friday, 10 July 2026, is a reimagining of the Oscar-nominated animated classic originally released in 2016.

In this upcoming adventure, Moana answers the Ocean’s call and voyages beyond the reef of her island, Motunui, alongside the demigod Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson.

To mark the film’s promotion, a slice of the Pacific was brought to the heart of London at Potters Fields Park. The day-long immersive pop-up event saw the 10,000-square-foot location transformed into a Motunui-inspired paradise.

The star-studded event was hosted by actress and TV presenter Molly Rainford alongside radio DJ and TV presenter Tyler West.

Director Thomas Kail and producer Auli’i Cravalho were also in attendance, while the crowd was treated to a variety of performances, including a choreographed rendition of ‘We Know the Way’ by more than 20 dancers from the London School of Hula and Ori, backed by a live Tahitian drumline.

The Disney Theatre Group also performed crowd-favourite hits ‘How Far I’ll Go’ and ‘You’re Welcome’, featuring stars from the Hercules and The Lion King West End shows.

The venue featured striking installations, including a giant six-metre replica of Maui’s iconic hook and a full-scale recreation of Moana’s canoe, all set against the backdrop of Tower Bridge. Guests throughout the day could participate in themed activities ranging from Pua-inspired pig petting to karaoke sessions and hands-on leaf weaving workshops.

A highlight of the day was a surprise visit from schoolchildren from St Gregory’s School in Colchester. The pupils, who believed they were attending a standard school trip, were stunned to find themselves at the centre of the action.

The group previously went viral on social media after posting a TikTok video asking Dwayne Johnson to respond; not only did he reply with a personalised video message, but he helped organise for the group to attend the experience in person to meet the stars.
