The rapper could have brought in more than $2.9 million on his bet had the perceived “Drake Curse” not struck again

Drake‘s confidence is admirable. Ahead of the Super Bowl, the rapper shared a screenshot of the $1 million bet he placed on the Canadian crypto-betting site Stake that favored the New England Patriots to win. “Bet against me if you dare,” he captioned the Instagram post. It didn’t end up working out in his favor as the Seattle Seahawks emerged victorious over the Patriots, 29-13. With a different outcome, Drake could have brought in more than $2.9 million on his bet.

The loss has already been added to TheDrakeCurse.com, a site described as “an independent investigation into Canadian musical artist Drake’s betting habits.” The vigilante pocket watchers behind the site have been tracking claims of whether he could “curse sports teams and athletes” simply by supporting them via ambitious bets. The site data claims Drake has wagered $46.9 million across 84 bets, of which he has won 30 and lost 54. With the NFL, in particular, he has placed 20 bets and turned a profit of over $680,000 despite losing 14 of those bets, according to the site.

Even if the “Drake Curse” is real, he doesn’t seem to be too devastated by his losses. His fans would still prefer if he kept his thoughts on their favorite teams to himself. The comments on Drake’s post about the Patriots bet are a mix of preemptive congratulations for the Seahawks and pleas for him to delete the photo. “Yup we know how this goes,” read one comment, which has amassed more than 11,000 likes. At least Drake had Mark Wahlberg in his corner, who wrote, “SMART MAN🙌❤️🙌.” It’s the thought that counts.

“I feel like I don’t play sports,” Drake said last year in an Instagram video addressing the “Drake Curse.” “Whether I picked the wrong team or not — if I could get out there and win for all your favorite teams, I would. The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly.” He mentioned the Toronto Raptors’ championship win, which he also placed a bet on, as evidence that he isn’t always wrong. But he doesn’t deny that his track record isn’t the best. “I’m sure if you’re a Drake curse believer, there will be plenty more content in the future to confirm your theories,” he said, “because for whatever reason, my slips do not cash out.”
