Dolly Parton Shares Positive Update Following Health Scare Rumors
Dolly Parton‘s hair and spirits are as high as ever despite the health scare rumors circulating on social media. Over the weekend, the country icon’s sister shared a statement asking everyone to keep Parton in prayer, which led some to believe she was gravely ill. Freida Parton, later explained that she “didn’t mean to scare anyone,” but just for good measure, Parton checked in herself from backstage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to show that she’s doing fine and y’all can quit all that worrying.
In an Instagram video filmed today, Oct. 8, Parton shut down the rumors while also sharing her perspective on some of the bewildered reactions she saw online.
“I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am,” Parton said. “Do I look sick to you?” She noted that she was at the iconic Nashville venue to film a few commercials, which explains her cowgirl-coded getup. “I’m working hard,” she continued. “I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease, those of you that seem to be real concerned — which I appreciate and I appreciate your prayers, cause I’m a person of faith. I can always use the prayers for anything and everything. But I want you to know that I’m OK.”
Parton explained that she’s been dealing with “some problems” that surfaced after the death of her husband Carl Dean in May this year after being sick for “a long time.” “When he passed, I didn’t take care of myself,” she said. “I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of. Anyway, when I got around to it, the doctor said, ‘We need to care of this, we need to take care of that.’”
Parton assured viewers that it is “nothing major,” but notes that the recent events and appearances she had to cancel were so that she could stay close to home and to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she’s “having a few treatments here and there.”
“I wanted you to know I’m not dying,” she said before turning her attention to a ridiculous AI-generated photo that imagined her on her deathbed. “Did you see that AI picture of Reba and me? Oh, lordy. I mean, they had Reba at my deathbed and we both look like we need to be buried. I thought, oh my lord, If I was really dying, I don’t think Reba would be the one at my deathbed. She might come visit me earlier.”
Thankfully, we don’t have to test the theory. “There’s just a lot of rumors flying around. But I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was OK,” Parton said. “I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me and I ain’t done working. I love you for caring, and keep praying for me.”
