Dog’s heartbreaking cries save her after being abandoned in cage | UK | News

An adorable dog who spent months trapped behind bars on a remote mountainside has finally been given a chance at a better life – but she’s still desperately waiting for someone to take her home.

The unnamed two-year-old was discovered living in a cage at a shelter in Amaliada, Greece, where dogs are rounded up off the streets and confined to kennels with little human interaction.

Unlike many rescue dogs, nobody knows where she came from or what she’s been through. All that’s certain is she’s spent her days staring out through metal bars, hoping somebody would notice her.

The heartbreaking conditions were discovered by team at Greek Stray ResQ during a visit to the shelter in June.

Set on the side of a mountain, the shelter is cared for by just one dedicated volunteer, meaning the dogs rarely get the chance to leave their kennels.

Instead, they spend every day trapped inside their cages, waiting for a second chance that may never come.

Despite everything she’s endured, the little dog hasn’t lost her love for people.

Weighing just 13kg, the fluffy white-and-tan pooch is described as incredibly friendly and affectionate.

Rescue workers say she leans in for every stroke she can get, soaking up even the briefest moments of kindness after spending so long in isolation.

But the saddest part of all is that she doesn’t even have a name.

The charity hopes her future family will be the first people to give her one – along with the love, comfort and security she’s never had.

Greek Stray ResQ said no dog deserves to spend their entire life watching the world pass by from behind bars, especially one with such a gentle nature.

The healthy dog has been neutered, fully vaccinated and is ready to travel to the UK for the right home.
