Dog nobody wants to rehome because he doesn’t have any eyes
Yet despite everything he has been through, Rigas has refused to let it define him. Those looking after him say he has made a remarkable recovery, blossoming into one of the most affectionate and gentle dogs you could ever hope to encounter.
With his ‘soft, velvet-like fur and calm nature’, you would never suspect the trauma he has endured. Remarkably, his blindness has not held him back, as he has learnt to navigate the world with confidence and trust, relying on his remaining senses and the compassion of those around him.
His carers describe the dog as approaching life with courage and an “open heart” – forging deep connections with people and displaying boundless affection. Now fully recovered, he is ready to embrace the next chapter of his life, but there remains just one thing missing – a loving home.
Rigas is currently awaiting a family who can provide him with a safe, warm environment where he will be cherished and protected for the remainder of his life. While his story may be heart-wrenching, those who know him insist he is brimming with joy and has an enormous amount of love still to give.
He would be best suited to a patient and compassionate owner who appreciates that blind dogs can adapt remarkably well and frequently develop even deeper bonds with their owners. Despite being currently based in Greece, Rigas is able to travel overseas, meaning his forever home could be located anywhere in the world.
Those championing his journey are urging prospective owners not to dismiss him on account of his disability. They said: “He’s already lost his sight. Let’s not let him lose his chance at a home too.”
Commenting on his rehoming post, one user said: “I have a blind girl dog from Romania you’d never ever think she is blind. She copes amazingly well. I wish I could have him as well he’s beautiful, bless him.”
Another user added: “I adopted Pete who was from Israel. Aged eight. Blind. Scars everywhere and a dodgy leg. He died aged 14. He was the bestest dog ever.
“I’m 61 and had dogs all my life. He walked in fields on the beach off lead. We between in tune together. He could even play football! I can’t adopt this lovely dog as I have an eight year old rescue reactive mastiff but I so hope someone gives a loving home.”
