D&D is getting World of Warcraft and Star Wars crossovers
Dungeons & Dragons is no stranger to franchise crossovers, and now it’s kicking off its biggest multiverse initiative to date, starting with a World of Warcraft expansion. Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that D&D: World of Warcraft — a new sourcebook that brings Blizzard’s Azeroth setting to the popular tabletop roleplaying game — will be launching on November 17th.
A D&D / Star Wars collaboration has also been announced, which will be set during the Rebellion era of the Star Wars franchise. Details on that are sparse, but it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2027. Both of these projects are part of what D&D publisher WotC is calling its “D&D Universes Beyond” initiative, which aims to build on the highly profitable success of the Universes Beyond series it launched for Magic: The Gathering in 2021. While wading into other IPs has been met with mixed reactions from MtG fans, the collectible card game is one of the few franchises that isn’t hemorrhaging money for WotC owner Hasbro.
D&D: World of Warcraft, uses the revised 5th edition Players Handbook as a foundation, and includes rules for how to play all 13 World of Warcraft classes using the TTRPG system, featuring a bunch of new spells, magic items, and professions. It also adds 11 new WoW-themed player species, and six additional subclasses, including the Oath of the Ebon Blade and Oath of the Holy for Paladins, Demon Hunter Ranger, Shadow Domain and Discipline Domain for Clerics, and the Path of the Elements Barbarian.
