A man has been praised for his heroic actions after hearing faint cries coming from woodland.

Many people enjoy a walk in the woods, however one man shared how heard an unsuual sound when walking through a snowy woodland with his children, prompting him to investigate further.

Posting on Reddit, he revealed: “We suddenly heard a cat meowing over and over; it seemed to be in trouble. We finally found her under a random hunk of plastic lying there – she must have gotten under it for shelter.”

The poor cat was entirely covered in ice, with her coat frozen to the plastic sheeting which she’d sought refuge, leaving her trapped and unable to break free.

He continued: “It was so sad – she’s tiny, maybe three to four weeks old. We got her free and brought her home. We’ve been warming her up and feeding her; she’s so happy now.

“Poor thing, if we hadn’t just happened to go in that direction, we never would have found her, and she would have suffered and died there.”

“I was adamant we wouldn’t go above three cats in the house again, but this one just feels like it was meant to be ours.”

He confirmed plans to take the kitten for veterinary care once road conditions improve sufficiently, as treacherous weather has made travel hazardous.

Expressing gratitude for both rescuing and rehoming the kitten, one commenter wrote: “She’s beautiful. I have three cats as well. I currently feed three feral cats outside.”

One compassionate viewer wrote: “I’m trying to get them to let me pet them, and they are trying. I feel so sorry for animals that are thrown out like this. You’re amazing.”

Another concerned user added: “Sweet baby. I’d also get her to the vet ASAP to run tests.”

They continued: “Her eyes could just be gunky, but that could also be from a condition like cat herpes, which is very commonly passed by the mothers through saliva, as well as other conditions she could have like feline leukemia, worms, and shots in general.Probably just gunk from being sniffly in that cold, though.”

A third expressed relief, saying: “Poor sweet cold baby! I’m so glad you found her. I hope you’re already dry and warm and getting to know each other.”

Meanwhile, another thoughtful commenter suggested: “Thank you so much for saving this bitty baby – you were at the right place at the right time.”

They went on to ask: “Kittens this little are usually with their litter. Did y’all look around to see where it could’ve come from or if there’s any more out there?”.

Offering practical advice, they added: “Maybe take a box with a blanket in it back out there with treats to lure mama in, in case she’s still out there, so she can move the kittens into it.”
