Connecticut State System Board Chair Resigns
The chair of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents, Marty Guay, resigned Monday, weeks after the system’s interim chancellor stepped down over allegations of sexual harassment, The Connecticut Mirror reported.
Former chancellor John Maduko resigned last month after he was accused of sending inappropriate texts and making sexual comments to a female employee of the CSCU system, according to a report released by the system last week. The report also noted concerns about Guay from the same unnamed employee, who alleged that he told her he’d previously had an employee who accused him of sexual harassment fired.
“After much reflection, I have submitted my resignation as Chair of the Board of Regents, effective immediately,” Guay wrote in a statement to the media. “I am grateful to Governor [Ned] Lamont for the trust he placed in me to help lead Connecticut’s public higher education system and to serve our students, faculty, staff, and campus communities across the state. I leave this role with deep pride in what we have accomplished together.”
The statement says Guay will begin a yearlong fellowship with Harvard University’s Advanced Leadership Initiative starting in August, and that he had originally planned to resign closer to the start of that position.
The system has hired an outside firm to conduct an investigation to “determine whether there is any ongoing harm that can be remediated and addressed by the institution,” according to a Board of Regents resolution.
