Back in 2019, writer-director Rian Johnson created a new fictional private detective in Benoit Blanc.

Daniel Craig’s well-dressed American southerner with a love of cigars solved his first on-screen murder mystery in Knives Out, before returning in Glass Onion.

Now the actor and filmmaker have teamed up for a third outing in Wake Up Dead Man.

As with the first two titles, the new film takes its name from a pop song (U2 in this case), with the plot once again being related to the lyrics.

Craig is joined by an all-star ensemble cast including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

The new film’s official synopsis reads: “Detective Benoit Blanc teams up with an earnest young priest to investigate a perfectly impossible crime at a small-town church with a dark history.” Johnson has teased a faith vs reason theme between the priest sidekick’s Catholic mystery and the detective’s logical deduction.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery hits select UK cinemas on Wednesday and is streaming on Netflix from December 12, 2025 with the first two films.
