Clint Eastwood, the almost 95-year-old titan of Hollywood was once asked what his favourite film was.

The Man with No Name star answered the question by naming three films.

He told the American Film Institute: “I was raised, of course, in what they call the Golden Age of movies.

“And a lot of the early films – John Ford’s How Green Was My Valley, William A Wellman’s The Ox-Bow Incident, and John Huston’s The Treasure of the Sierra Madre – all of those would fit in there.”

It turns out that the latter 1948 Humphrey Bogart movie ended up being one of the inspirations for Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones.

Adapted from B Traven’s 1927 novel of the same name, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre would go on to critical and commercial success, taking home three Oscars.

A 1920s neo-Western, the story followed two men who had seen better days teaming up with an old prospector (played by director John Huston’s father) as they set out in search of gold in Mexico.

One of the first Hollywood movies to shoot on location outside of the US, the film is considered one of the greatest movies of all time.
