Following his first Oscar wins for Oppenheimer, the hype is real for Sir Christopher Nolan’s next cinematic blockbuster.

Last summer, early 70mm screenings of the new film shot entirely in IMAX sold out a year in advance.

Meanwhile, the ancient epic’s prologue stunned audiences ahead of showings of Avatar at Christmas time.

Based on Homer’s famous legend, The Odyssey follows Matt Damon’s King of Ithaca on his 20 year journey home from the Trojan War via a whole host of trials on fantastical islands with gods and monsters.

Co-starring Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and more, it’s easily one of the most anticipated films of 2026.

And now the first reaction has been shared by the director’s brother, no less.

Jonathan Nolan (Westworld, Fallout) co-wrote a number of his brother’s blockbusters.

Speaking with Cinema Blend, he shared: “I’m not working on The Odyssey. I have seen The Odyssey. It’s tremendous. It’s an incredible achievement…. I was fascinated by the Iliad and The Odyssey when I was younger, and I had some fun conversations with Chris about where he’s taking it. It’s a spectacular film. I’m not sure I’m supposed to say that but, yes, it’s tremendous.”

The Odyssey hits cinemas on July 17, 2026.
