The Year of the Horse has officially arrived as Lunar New Year festivities commence. The celebrations span approximately 15 days, with the culturally significant festival centring on family gatherings, honouring ancestors and community rejuvenation.
Each day features distinctive rituals, all building towards the Lantern Festival on March 3 this year. Every year on the Chinese calendar is symbolised by one of 12 animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (also known as Sheep/Ram), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. These animals embody specific personality traits and are associated with varying fortunes each year.

Your zodiac animal is established by your year of birth. Additionally, there’s the heavenly stem each year, which represents one of the five elements, combined with one of the animals.
Regarding individual fortune prediction, each animal’s luck relies on the positioning of stellar deities, referred to as Tai Sui, which rotate according to Jupiter’s position in the heavens.
Tai Sui comprises 60 celestial deities, each governing a particular year for every zodiac sign within a 60-year cycle, reports the Mirror.
Certain animals are predicted to experience conflict with Tai Sui this year, which may pose difficulties. 2026 represents the Year of the Fire Horse, so it’s anticipated to be among the most fiery years.
Rat
Born 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020
Rats, who are in direct conflict with the horse, may face a few difficult months. March, April and October are predicted to be particularly challenging. Their unlucky colours are yellow and brown, and their unfortunate numbers are 5 and 9.
Horse
Born 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014
Despite it being their year, Horses will experience a clash with the Tai Sui deity. This could result in high-stress situations, emotional instability and the necessity for careful decision-making.

Ox
Born 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021.
Individuals born in the Year of the Ox have been warned that they may be susceptible to minor injuries and petty individuals. Thierry Chow, a feng shui consultant based in Hong Kong, advised CNN that they should be mindful of relationships and select partnerships wisely, whether in business or friendship.
Rabbit
Born 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023
Rabbits are expected to face hurdles this year, specifically in March and October. They’ve been advised to avoid the colours dark brown, dark yellow and white.
To improve their fortune, Rabbits should wear metallic colours and accessories to help balance their wood element with the Fire Horse.
Dog
Born 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018
Dogs are predicted to enjoy good luck in terms of finances, career and family in 2026. However, they’ve been warned to take care of their health, particularly regarding stomach and digestive issues.
