After the scorching temperatures this weekend, summer dressing is firmly back on the agenda – and I found myself revisiting one of Princess Catherine’s most elegant style moments for inspiration.

Back in 2022, the royal, 44, stepped out in a bespoke Emilia Wickstead dress reportedly worth more than £1,000. The sleek sleeveless design, complete with dramatic black piping running through the silhouette, instantly became one of those understated royal fashion moments that still feels just as chic years later. The only issue? Catherine’s exact version was custom-made and never hit the high street.

Thankfully, I may have found the next best thing. ME+EM’s new summer collection includes a strikingly similar linen midi dress that captures that same polished, minimalist aesthetic Princess Catherine made look so effortlessly elegant – but for hundreds less.

Much like Princess Catherine’s original Emilia Wickstead look, the ME+EM design features a clean ivory-toned base with sharp black piping running through the silhouette, creating that same sleek, ultra-expensive feel royals favour during the warmer months. However, there are a few subtle differences. Catherine’s bespoke version featured a slightly sharper neckline and more structured waist detailing, while this dress feels softer and a little more relaxed for everyday wear.

And honestly, that versatility is exactly what makes it so appealing. Crafted from crease-less linen, the dress feels particularly practical for summer events, holidays, weddings or race days where nobody wants to worry about crushed fabric. The sleeveless cut keeps it fresh and modern, while the monochrome piping adds instant polish without needing heavy styling.

It also comes in several colourways, including black and brown, alongside a striking cobalt blue version for shoppers wanting something bolder heading into the holiday season. It’s also available in sizes 6 upwards, and it feels exactly like the sort of timeless investment piece shoppers increasingly want right now. The British label already has strong royal backing, too.

Carole Middleton has regularly been spotted wearing ME+EM over the years and famously chose a sophisticated dress from the brand for Royal Ascot last year.

Beyond royal circles, the design has also earned celebrity approval, with The Crown star Gillian Anderson recently photographed wearing it during the Cannes Film Festival.
