Standing out from the crowd as a rescue animal can be challenging,  but this cat has come up with an adorable solution.

Little Appletini, a tortoiseshell domestic shorthair cat, has started collecting gifts for her foster owners to say thank you for the kindness they have shown her.

The six-year-old has been searching for a home with Battersea for around 240 days – but is yet to be matched with the right owner despite her gift-giving qualities.

A Battersea spokesperson told The Express: “She has the sweetest habit of fetching apples from her foster home apple tree and bringing them to her humans as a gift which is one of the many ways she shows affection.”

She arrived at the animal rescue centre due to a change in her owner’s circumstances and has been described as the “sweet girl”.

When she isn’t collecting fruit, she enjoys chasing after a string toy and will even throw her mice toys around and trail after them.

Her adoption statement adds: “She has been with Battersea since February of this year and is more than ready to put her roots down in a loving forever home.”

On social media, the Battersea shared their mission to “be here for every dog and cat, not just those at our three centres”.

They said: “Through our campaigning, we want to prevent the causes of poor dog and cat health and welfare. We’re focusing on four major pressure points: tackling harmful trends, driving up welfare standards in breeding, improving safety around dogs, and making more pet friendly properties.”

Commenting on their post, one user said: “Where would they be without Battersea.”

Another user added: “Wonderful.”

A third user said: “I wish all pet owners took responsibility for their animals.”

One more user added: “How people can discard animals like rubbish is beyond me. Thanks to Battersea for their efforts and love.”

Established in Holloway, London, in 1860, Battersea is one of the UK’s oldest and best known animal rescue centres.

While it remains unknown how many animals they have helped since they first opened their doors, they successfully rehome thousands of animals every single year.

Anybody interested in rehoming Appletini or any other cat at Battersea should fill out an online application and then email Battersea’s rehoming team on cat.rehoming@battersea.org.uk . To find out more visit battersea.org.uk/rehome/cats
