Carter Sought to Hire Associate at Nebraska
Carter was president of the University of Nebraska system before his tenure at Ohio State.
Following a bombshell report that revealed former Ohio State University president Ted Carter sought to steer resources, and a job, to a woman he had an “inappropriate” relationship with, Nebraska Public Media reports that he made similar efforts as president of the University of Nebraska system.
Carter, who resigned as Ohio State president in March, admitted to an inappropriate relationship with Krisanthe Vlachos, whom he is believed to have met in early 2023 while president of NU. Carter shared her résumé with OSU officials and pressed both the university and outside organizations to help Vlachos launch an app to connect veterans with training resources. While NU has said it is reviewing records from his tenure, documents obtained by Nebraska Public Media show that Carter had also tried to get Vlachos a job with that system.
Carter, who led Nebraska from January 2020 through late 2023, reportedly shared Vlachos’s résumé with Rick Evans, executive director of NU’s National Strategic Research Institute. While Evans responded that “her skills are probably best aligned to the Contracts and Business Operations Coordinator position you approved us to hire,” it is unclear whether she applied.
NU has not specified a timeline for when findings may be released. Carter is believed to have met Vlachos in March 2023; he left the Nebraska system later that year to take the top job at Ohio State, where he started in January 2024.
