“I just get so angry all again because she didn’t deserve this, she didn’t ask for this,” the rapper said during his testimony on Thursday

Rapper Bun B took the stand during a court hearing in Houston on Thursday, giving an emotional testimony detailing the armed home invasion he and his wife Queenie experienced at their house over five years ago.

In a video captured by Houston’s ABC 13, Bun, whose real name is Bernard James Freeman, fought back tears as he told the court that he and his wife still suffer thinking about the incident. “There are times where she gets closed off, she can’t communicate,” Freeman said. “I just get so angry all again, because she didn’t deserve this, she didn’t ask for this.”

The defendant, DeMonte Jackson, a 25-year-old who pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, committed the invasion in April of 2019. Jackson held a gun to Queenie’s head during the home invasion, ABC 13 reported. After demanding valuables, Queenie told Jackson to take the car in the garage. Freeman shot Jackson in the garage, and he fled the scene and later went to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

Freeman recalled his wife’s reaction the day after the invasion during the testimony for Jackson’s sentencing, telling the court that the trauma made it difficult to be in their home.

“The next morning, she got out of bed and went down to the kitchen, and I heard her screaming. I went down to see what was wrong, and she had her back turned. She was crying,” Freeman said. I was like, ‘What’s wrong?’ and she was shaking furiously. She was like, ‘I can’t look at those stairs.’ It was at that point we realized she couldn’t be in that house anymore.”

Per ABC 13, it’s taken several years for the case to reach sentencing because of mental health issues Jackson reportedly suffers.

“We wanted to make sure he was completely competent before the hearing took place,” defense attorney Letitia Quinones said.
