Film fans love a good Western, with the genre proving to be particularly popular of late, as many movie buffs have been raving about iconic Westerns. Lately, another film has been catching people’s attention as they can’t stop speaking about how good it is, and viewers are encouraging others to tune in.

The film was recently brought up on Reddit after people were looking for recommendations of what to watch. It’s available to view on Amazon Prime and Apple TV, having been initially released back in 2006. Since then, viewers have been hooked, and they’ve been quick to praise the movie for being both “brutal” and “brilliant.”

It comes after various Western fans have been sharing their recommendations online. Just last month, people were raving about a “masterpiece” that they can’t stop watching because it’s so good.

A Reddit user posted: “I’ve recently been watching a TON of Westerns, but I find the ones I like the most are more modern (Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, Unforgiven). Of course, I do like most of the old ones I’ve seen, but they tend to be slower for my liking.

“With what I have listed, what Westerns would I like?” After the post was shared, people were all too quick to share their views.

One person said: “The Proposition, Hostiles, Seraphim Falls, Old Henry!” To this, someone else replied: “The Proposition is an all time favourite movie for me. Old Henry was such a great surprise.

“One of my favourite movie experiences in recent years. I haven’t seen the other two, but will give them a watch.”

A third added: “The Proposition was so good.” If you haven’t heard of it before, The Proposition is an Australian Western film directed by John Hillcoat and written by screenwriter and musician Nick Cave.

It stars Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, Emily Watson, John Hurt and others and is set in 1880s Australia. It tells the story of a lawman (Ray Winstone) who offers renegade Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) a difficult choice.

If he wants to save his younger brother from the gallows, he needs to hunt down and kill his older brother (Danny Huston), who is wanted by police on suspicion of rape and murder. As he travels to one of the Outback’s most unwelcoming regions, Charlie is faced with a difficult moral dilemma that is sure to end in violence.

Elsewhere on social media, people have also been raving about the movie. One person said: “There are some movies that I can smell, and this is one of them. Overall, a brutal but fun movie to watch.”

Another noted: “I absolutely love this movie, I recommend it to everyone.” A third replied: “Great, dark, nasty Western. Love it.”

A fourth chimed in with: “Oh man. This is one of my all time favourites. Limited dialogues, beautiful desert scenes and Nick Cave. Guy Pearce was amazing in it.”

A fifth also commented: “One of the best Westerns ever made.” Someone else also suggested: “The spear scene is forever etched in my memory.

“Supremely underappreciated movie. I don’t think it’s underrated.”
