Broccoli will be ‘extra delicious’ if you coat it in 2 ingredients

If you’re trying to eat more healthily but don’t fancy just adding a bunch of plain boiled vegetables to your plate, then look no further, because one woman has promised that she has a way to “make broccoli taste good”. 

TikToker Ria, who posts as @halloumiqueenie, shared a “Cypriot hack” of how to dress broccoli to make it taste delicious every time, making it the perfect addition to any meal.

We all know that it’s advised to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every single day, but many people often find themselves reaching for convenience foods because they have such busy lives.

However, there’s really no excuse to do this when there’s an easy recipe to elevate broccoli to another level that’s so simple.

First, Ria recommended that once you’ve boiled your broccoli, you should add a generous drizzle of olive oil onto it – but it has to be Cypriot. She said: “If it’s not olive oil, don’t even bother”.

Then, the next step is to “get two fresh lemons, because Cypriot food always has that zing”. She then joked that “no lemon, no party”.

Ria said that the final step is to “add salt, give it a good mix, and that’s your broccoli glow-up, the Cypriot style”.

In the comments, someone said: “If you blitz olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic, it takes it to a next level! It becomes a sauce/mayo-like consistency sooo good.”

Another added: :Exactly how my mum does it, and she does this mainly with asparagus.”

A Cypriot woman also penned: “I use olive oil and lemon and salt like a dressing all the time. Mop up the rest with some koulouri or any village-style Cypriot bread. Heaven,”

Want another way to make boring broccoli elevated if olive oil and lemon isn’t your thing?

Try roasting broccoli florets tossed with a little sesame oil, a splash of soy sauce, and a sprinkle of chilli flakes. Spread them on a baking sheet and roast at 220°C for about 20 minutes, until the edges are crispy and caramelised.

While the broccoli is still hot, toss it with a handful of toasted sesame seeds and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup for a sweet-salty kick.

Finish with thinly sliced green onions and, if you like, a dusting of furikake or crushed nori for a savoury, umami boost.

This combination brings out broccoli’s natural sweetness and adds layers of flavour and texture.
