Brit who moved to Spain shares ‘things she now gets for free’
A British woman who relocated to Spain eight years ago to begin a fresh chapter has disclosed the three amenities she now receives free of charge having established herself in her new home abroad.
Geo, who is in her thirties, currently lives and works in Malaga in the south of the country on the Costa del Sol. “When we bought our house in Spain these are a few things that made us fall in love with the property,” she began in a video on Instagram.
Displaying her sea view to her 31,000 followers, Geo initially drew attention to a neighbouring communal play area featuring various park equipment for local children to enjoy. She went on, identifying complimentary tennis courts and multi-sport facilities close by, along with picnic benches for less energetic residents.
Dismissing suggestions from several of her followers that charges for such amenities were incorporated into her property’s price, Geo reassured them this wasn’t the situation and access was genuinely free of charge.
Furthermore, she also posted footage of the “perfect dog walking paths” in the area alongside breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Replying in the comments, one Instagram user enquired: “Do they have good schools round east Malaga?” To which Geo admitted: “It’s hit and miss, some are okay and some not (my experience)!”
And a second individual remarked: “I’m a sucker for all the green space and sea view.” Geo concurred: “Me too! It is best to be close to nature.”
The British expat went on to offer guidance to those contemplating making the same move, while candidly admitting to the “several mistakes” she made upon first arriving in Spain. “Signing up to the first bank I walked into,” she began, adding that she regrettably relied on public transport rather than driving herself around.
Geo joked that she also blundered by assuming hairdressers in southern Spain would be well-versed in blonde hair and balayage techniques, and regarding the heat, she advised against sunbathing in the early afternoon, while carrying tissues is a “must” to mop up perspiration.
Meanwhile, she further explained that the purpose of her online content is to portray the “reality” of life in Spain, noting that it isn’t always glamorous. “I wanted to show a realistic representation of what life is actually like here,” she said. “And unfortunately that life doesn’t always look pretty or exciting… some days are boring and mundane.”
Geo elaborated: “Regardless of where you live in the world, you still have to do normal things such as going to work and doing house chores. Living abroad really is a journey of good and bad days and the most popular videos aren’t always the most accurate representation.”
