Netflix viewers have been left on the edge of their seats after watching a true crime documentary about the insane true story of the abduction of a teen girl in the 1970s, that comes  with many twists and turns.

Documentaries are a great way to get yourself tangled into the different crimes and unexplained things which have happened around the world, without having to leave the sofa. But one documentary on Netflix has now been praised as one of the best due to the ‘crazy’ real life story being told. Taking to Reddit, one user went on to ask for documentary recommendations on Netflix, and many quickly came to praise the specific film in question.

Several people went on to share the various different documentaries available, but one true crime documentary soon stood out as one of the ‘craziest’ documentaries around.

“Abducted in Plain Sight. Buckle up it’s a wild ride,” one user shared, and many quickly went on to agree.

Abducted in Plain Sight, also known as Forever B, is a 2017 true crime documentary that explores the kidnappings of Jan Broberg, an child from Idaho, US, who was abducted by her neighbour Robert Berchtold in the 1970s on two separate occasions.

The Broberg family met the Berchtold family through their church in a small town in Idaho in 1972, according to the documentary.

“He was the kind of guy that was just helpful,” Jan said of her initial impressions of Berchtold. “Everybody loved him.”

Released on Netflix in 2019, filmmaker Skye Borgman explored the unbelievable twists and turns of the Jan Broberg kidnapping case, as well as Robert Berchtold’s commitment to his crime – including getting Jan’s parents to forgive him for the crime before he went on to abduct their daughter for a second time.

The documentary contains interviews with Jan, as well as her dad Robert Broberg, who all recalled the moments of the abductions, and the things Berchtold made them go through – including making Jan believe she’d been abducted by aliens.

The movie documentary has an approval rating of 75% on movie review site Rotten Tomatoes. It also won several awards for Best Documentary at the time it premiered.

Several other people also took to the Reddit post to share their praises for the documentary that left many on the edge of their seats with its many twists and turns.

“I had to rewind so many times because I couldn’t believe what I heard,” one Reddit user said about the documentary. Another person added: “The amount of wtf moments was insane.”

Someone else said: “One of my most recommended. I think I watched about 60% of it with my jaw wide open.”

Abducted in Plain Sight is currently available to stream on Netflix.
