Beck Shares New Single ‘Disappearing Act’ from ‘Ride Lonesome’ Album
The single will appear alongside previously released tracks “In the Night” and “Ride Lonesome” on his upcoming album, Ride Lonesome, out Sept. 18
Beck is only a few weeks out from the release of Ride Lonesome, his first full-length LP in seven years. The musician began rolling out the project earlier this summer with the singles “In the Night” and “Ride Lonesome” with Sierra Ferrell. Now, he’s offering another glimpse into the album with “Disappearing Act,” an airy, lyrically sparse and string-backed song about moving in a new direction.
“Ride right into the storm/Like a beast waiting to be born/There’s a road out of here needs to nowhere,” Beck sings. “High as the sun/Like a fool/Falling back to earth/Ride the darkness somewhere new/Try to unlearn the things you knew/There’s a road out of here leads to nowhere.”
“Disappearing Act” appears midway through the 12-track album, out Sept. 18 via Capitol Records. Thematically, it reflects a broader theme that appears across the album, including the title track. Speaking with NPR earlier this year, Beck connected music from the record to a pivotal period of loneliness.
“It was one of those times in your life when you’re taking things in, where you’ve been and where you’re going. You know, when you’re going through difficult things, often you have to get through it yourself,” he said. “You just have to move forward through whatever landscape of your life and circumstances you find yourself in. And I think it’s sort of that dark comfort of pushing through the parts of life that are maybe not as comfortable or easy, and having some distant faith that it will pull you through to the other side.”
In time with the release of Ride Lonesome, Beck will embark on a 26-date North American tour. The trek will begin in Vancouver on Sept. 16 and extend through Oct. 31, when the singer-songwriter will conclude the stretch of live shows with a Halloween in Nashville.
